More than 50 000 HMRC staff took part in a 48-hour strike over changes to the civil service compensation scheme the Public and Commercial Services Union claimed. Mark Serwotka PCS General Secretary said an overtime ban across the civil service would begin on 10 March 'with the possibility of further walkouts looming in the coming weeks'. 'Our figures show that just over 24 600 people were on strike out of a workforce of 89 000. All our telephone helplines have been operational during the strike and all our enquiry centres have remained open to the public ' an HMRC spokeswoman said.
