Agent Update 101

printer Mail

HMRC’s Agent Update for October 2022 summarises the recent NICs changes, highlights potential issues with the ‘exceptional circumstances’ day limit for residence purposes, and provides various VAT reminders:

  • Reversal of the 1.25% NICs increases: as per HMRC’s October Employer Bulletin, agents and clients are reminded to make the necessary changes to be ready for the November 2022 payroll.
  • Residence: exceptional circumstances: HMRC is sending ‘one to many’ letters to agents and taxpayers, encouraging those whose 2020/21 returns recorded days spent in the UK over and above the normal limits for ‘exceptional circumstances’, or for coronavirus-related work, to amend their returns. HMRC intends to run a webinar for agents on a date in November (to be announced).
  • VAT: changes to the agent services account: the terminology ‘MTD VAT’ will be reduced to simply ‘VAT’.
  • Webinar for completing the VAT 484 form: HMRC is running two webinars (one for agents and one for taxpayers) which will focus on how to make changes to VAT registration details on VAT 484.
