As usual, the July 2023 Agent Update sets out a range of useful updates and reminders for practitioners, including the following:
Overlap relief: HMRC's online form for submitting requests for details of overlap profits (for basis period reform purposes) is to be launched in summer 2023. The ATT had recently reported that this would open on 29 August 2023 suggesting that, although overlap figures can be requested by writing to HMRC, waiting for the new online form could well be simpler.
Change of start date for R&D additional information requirements: new claim notification and additional information requirements will apply from 8 August 2023 (rather than 1 August 2023), as per SI 2023/813.
New alcohol duty regime: reminder that the new alcohol duty system will take effect from 1 August 2023.
Economic crime levy online service now open for returns:in addition to registering for ECL, businesses can now also submit returns using the ECL Online Service.
