I found the Australian tax system very confusing when I first moved here ten years ago; I also found the rates to be high thresholds low and the position seemed to be deteriorating through bracket creep. As you would expect you cannot get a thorough understanding of the tax from a brief article but it is hoped that this will give an introduction that will be useful to anybody with clients with Australian connections or with clients thinking of moving to or investing in Australia.
