In continuing the environmental theme started by Gordon Brown in the 12 March 2008 Budget the Chancellor Alistair Darling introduced the most significant changes to company car taxation since 2002. The decision to extend the CO2 basis from company car scale charges to corporation tax had been extensively consulted upon and therefore came as no surprise. The delayed introduction to 2009 however gives employers time to review fleet policy both from a financial and environmental perspective to ensure it meets the needs of the business and its employees.
