There are around 4.7 million businesses in the UK which pay a total of £178 billion a year in VAT corporation tax and excise duties and collect and pay a further £220bn in payroll taxes. HMRC's approach to business customers reflects the three aims of the HMRC vision: closing the tax gap making the tax system feel simple and even-handed for customers and improving our professionalism and efficiency.
