David Cameron had previously ruled out a mansions tax (one of his coalition partners’ flagship policies) or an increase in council tax for high-value properties.
The Financial Times (12 November) reported that an increase in tax on high-end properties may be required in order to push through a deal with the Liberal Democrats on further benefits cuts.
