Businesses submitting import declarations businesses must use the Customs Declaration Service (CDS) from 1 October 2022 after which the Customs Handling Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system will close for import declarations. HMRC has confirmed that if a business has been unable to migrate to the CDS by this time, there is a form available to ask permission for the temporarily use of CHIEF after this date.
