The lower chamber of the Swiss Parliament has provisionally backed the release of details to the US Government of wealthy Americans with secret Swiss bank accounts. A deal between the two Governments requires Switzerland to deliver details of the accounts of customers of global financial services firm UBS by 19 August. However the deal remains uncertain after the lower chamber also said that there should be a national referendum on the issue.
