Marks & Spencer's outgoing executive chairman Sir Stuart Rose warned the Government to 'come clean with shoppers' the Daily Telegraph reported (25 May). Any rise in VAT is 'unpalatable' and UK businesses 'should be given prior notice of any rise rather than it being increased overnight ' he added. 'Consumers are saying “For God's sake tell us what is going to happen so we can plan”.'
