The government has laid a further set of regulations extending until 29 March 2019 the deadline for UK operators participating in the EU ETS to surrender their emission allowances for the 2018 scheme year.
The Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Scheme (Amendment) (No 2) Regulations, SI 2019/644, extend the deadline initially to 29 March 2019. If the date of the UK’s exit from the EU is subsequently delayed beyond 29 March, the surrender deadline will be moved again to the earlier of exit day or 30 April 2019.
These deadlines will continue to apply if, before the new surrender deadline, ‘Exit day’ is subsequently changed again.
The regulations came into force on 25 March 2019. This deadline was previously extended from 15 March to 26 March by SI 2019/528.
