European finance ministers have reached agreement on the general approach for the carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM) regulation, which is one of the key elements of the EU’s ‘fit for 55’ package. Sufficient progress still needs to be made on a number of related issues to the CBAM before the Council will start negotiations with the European Parliament, after the latter has agreed its position.
