Alan Dolton editor of Tolley's Tax Cases summarises the first day of the Public Bill Committee debate on the Finance Bill

The Public Bill Committee began its consideration of the Finance Bill on Tuesday 19 May. Excluding the Chairmen the Committee comprises 34 MPs (19 Labour 10 Conservative four Liberal Democrat and Stewart Hosie of the SNP). Conservative spokesman Mark Hoban (Fareham) commented in his opening remarks:

'… Labour Members who did not take part in the debate on the Finance Bill in the House will now have the opportunity to voice their concerns about aspects of it. I am disappointed that the hon. Members for Wolverhampton South-West (Rob Marris) and for Coventry North-West (Mr Robinson) the most assiduous participants when the Bill...
