The House of Commons began debating the Finance Bill on Tuesday 6 May. Predictably the debate was debated by party-political points-scoring with relatively little to interest the tax practitioner. Conservative spokesman Howard Flight (Arundel & South Downs) did confirm that his party 'welcome the fact that at last the Government are making some attempts to crack down on VAT fraud and missing trader fraud. We welcome the anti-avoidance VAT measures dealing with property'.
 
The Bill duly received its Second Reading. A week later...
