The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy has launched a consultation to seek views from individuals and businesses on proposals to reform flexible working regulations.
In April 2003, the UK government introduced the right for parents and certain other carers to request a flexible working arrangement, which covered work location, working hours and working pattern. In 2014 this right was extended to all employees with 26 weeks’ continuous service.
This consultation considers proposals to reform flexible working regulations (the Flexible Working Regulations, SI 2014/1398) which would affect both employers who receive flexible working requests and individuals who are looking to change their contracted working arrangements.
The consultation covers England, Wales and Scotland, but not Northern Ireland, where employment law is devolved.
The consultation closes on 1 December 2021 and responses can be made online or by emailing labourmarketparticipation@beis.gov.uk.
