In a written ministerial statement, the UK government has confirmed that the remaining import controls on EU goods due to be introduced in July will no longer be implemented in 2022. Instead, traders will continue to move their goods from the EU to GB as they do currently. This means businesses can stop their preparations for the planned July implementation.
The following controls which were planned for introduction from July 2022 will now not be introduced:
In the Autumn, HMRC will publish a target operating model which will set out the new regime of border import controls and will target the end of 2023 as the revised introduction date for the controls regime.
The CIOT welcomes feedback from members on the changes via technical@ciot.org.uk (with ‘Border Controls’ in the title of the email).
