Government extends alcohol duty freeze

printer Mail

The Treasury has announced that any changes to alcohol duty rates will be put on hold until 1 August 2023.

New duty rates usually come in on 1 February each year but the duty rates decision will be held until the chancellor delivers his Spring Budget on 15 March 2023. If any changes to duty are announced in the Budget, they will not take effect until 1 August 2023.

This aligns the timing of any rate changes with the introduction of the new, simpler alcohol tax system.
