I am not a Guardian reader but was attracted by Andrew Goodall's two-part review of its 'tax gap' series to visit its website and read the various articles (although I suspect these may be edited versions of the originals). Having done so I thought Andrew's concluding reference to 'watching the debate closely' somewhat of a misnomer. My understanding of a debate is a process under which the arguments for and against a proposition are fairly presented and discussed in the hope that observers might draw some valid conclusion from the discussion.
