HMRC has corrected tax returns submitted before 19 June 2021 where SEISS grants were not reported correctly, following earlier problems where pre-populated figures were inflating the amount of SEISS grants on the return. The ATT has published an update from HMRC’s Agent Forum held on 23 September 2021 which confirms that all affected returns filed before 19 June have been corrected. HMRC will continue to correct the SEISS grant amounts included in 2020/21 tax returns submitted after that date.
According to the update, HMRC also expects to finish processing a small number of return amendments that were received before 19 June, by the first week of October. HMRC will contact taxpayers/agents in relation to any further actions they need to take to make sure the changes are accurate and to avoid SEISS grants being taxed twice.
