At the beginning of August, HMRC began trialling a new procedure for taxpayers to claim refunds of PAYE tax overpaid during 2015/16 using their online personal tax account. The service is now available to all taxpayers, promising a refund within 3-5 days to those who submit their bank details and make a claim via their personal tax account. See http://bit.ly/2c4hmva.

HMRC has previously confirmed that where taxpayers make no formal claim, either online or by phone, the refund will be made by post after 45 days.
