Richard Clarke and Jennifer Knowlson of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP review HMRC's 2007 Departmental Autumn Performance Report
Just before the Christmas break HMRC issued its autumn report into its performance in 2006/07. Running to a mere 45 pages the report is briefer than in previous years and for a fuller picture it needs to be read together with the Spring Departmental Report. (The reports are available on the HMRC website at www.hmrc.gov.uk/about.)
The autumn report contains interesting statistics which summarise the effects of the department's operations although some further explanation of some of the numbers would have been helpful.
At the time the report was being compiled and published HMRC's Chairman had recently resigned and the introduction to the report refers to the loss of child benefit data...
