HMRC’s evolving approach to tax compliance for the largest businesses

HMRC’s large business director, Nicole Newbury, outlines the department’s  approach, including priority areas of focus and how it is evolving to reflect wider changes in the economy and customers’ circumstances. 

Large businesses play a vital role in the UK and I appreciate that effective tax administration is important in supporting UK competitiveness and promoting investment.

Since starting as director of HMRC’s Large Business directorate (LB) in December 2022 I have met with many in the large business community. From my time as director for Wealthy and Mid-Sized Business Compliance I had an awareness of many of the issues that large businesses face but it has been good to hear directly about the specific challenges the areas of HMRC work that are really valued by the business community and areas where we could better support our large business customers.
