ICAEW CPD changes from November 2023

printer Mail

The CIOT has highlighted changes to the ICAEW’s continuing professional development (CPD) regulations which apply from 1 November 2023.

Members covered by the regulations will be required to complete the following each year:

  • a minimum number of CPD hours;
  • a number of CPD hours that are verifiable; and
  • a minimum one hour of ethics training aligned to the ICAEW code of ethics.

The minimum requirements are set according to the CPD category, ranging from 40 hours of CPD for members in practice with the highest risk rated activity to 20 CPD hours for members not in practice. The CIOT has confirmed it has no plans ‘at present’ to return to an hours-based approach for its own CPD. Joint members of the CIOT and ICAEW will be required to meet the CPD requirements of both organisations, but the CIOT notes that CPD for one body could well meet the requirements of the other (advising that members should check to make sure). For ‘verifiable’ CPD hours, CIOT and other external training is likely to fall within the definition of verifiable CPD provided by the ICAEW.
