The European
Commission, after consulting with
all member states and the UK, has decided to extend the temporary relief
for customs duties and VAT on the import of medical devices and protective
equipment from third countries to 31 October 2020 to help in the fight against
coronavirus. The initial period was
due to expire on 31 July 2020. This
covers masks and protective equipment as well as testing kits, ventilators and
other medical equipment. HMRC has also updated its guidance
with similar effect.
