HMRC have announced that they will bring some existing IT services under their direct control while they continue to plan the transition to a new IT delivery model following the ending of the Aspire contract in 2017. This strategy is aimed at making savings of up to 24% on their £800 million annual IT budget by 2020/21, while continuing to maintain consistent delivery of services to taxpayers. Proposed new personal and business tax accounts, which will work like online bank accounts, will be introduced to allow taxpayers to deal with all their tax affairs in one place, available to ten million individual taxpayers and five million businesses by early 2016.
