The joint international taskforce on shared intelligence and collaboration (JITSIC) met on 16 and 17 January at the OECD in Paris, according to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), to share information on investigations arising as a result of the Panama papers revelations. The ICIJ reports that tax authorities of the 36 countries that participate in JITSIC have between them investigated more than 1,700 taxpayers and made more than 2,550 requests for information. This has led to a ‘target list’ of 100 intermediaries, including financial institutions and professional advisers, for further investigation.
The ICIJ quotes a source at JITSIC having described the meeting, the largest of its kind to coordinate and collaborate on tax investigations, as ‘historic’.
