This is the first of two articles examining legal professional privilege giving an overview of the current law reviewing recent developments in this changing area and giving some practical guidance on how to deal with issues of privilege which may arise in the taxation context. In this article we look at the principles underlying legal professional privilege before examining legal advice privilege. In the next edition we will focus on litigation privilege.
