The lull before the storm

Uncertainty over the upcoming EU referendum appears to have hit business and consumer confidence and economic activity, and by extension the public finances, as David Smith reports.
 
The EU referendum is still a few weeks away but it seems to have been dominating the agenda for ever. As someone who is normally drawn to news programmes and of course is addicted to newspapers I have to confess that the period leading up to the referendum is proving tough. The urge to switch off is a powerful one as it is to skip over those pages which are just a tit for tat between Remain and Leave campaigners. But stay with me for this. 
 
This is of course a very important moment in our economic and political destiny and it is already having an impact. The Bank of England...
