HM Treasury is seeking views on the introduction in Finance Bill 2012 of a machine games duty to be charged on the net takings from the playing of machine games.

Where it is payable, the duty will replace replace VAT and amusement machine licence duty. Consultation on a new ‘gross profits tax’ on gaming machines was launched by the Labour government in 2009.
