Since its introduction over 30 years ago the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) has only been subject to one major change which was when the current CIS was introduced in August 1999. However there will soon be some major changes to the scheme that will affect both subcontractors and contractors in the construction industry.
 
The well-publicised changes will take effect from 6 April and the CIS 4 5 and 6 exemption certificates/registration cards will be abolished and replaced by a verification system. This coupled with the removal of the end-of-year return CIS36 and the voucher system would...
