Jean-Claude Juncker, the new president of the European Commission, has set out his agenda in a document entitled A New Start for Europe: My agenda for Jobs, Growth, Fairness and Democratic Change. In it, Juncker reiterated his commitment to the CCCTB and the FTT, a move that was said to be welcomed by European commissioner for taxation Algirdas Šemeta.
‘We need more fairness in our internal market,’ Juncker wrote in the document. ‘While recognising the competence of Member States for their taxation systems, we should step up our efforts to combat tax evasion and tax fraud, so that all contribute their fair share. I will notably press ahead with administrative cooperation between tax authorities and work for the adoption at EU level of a common consolidated corporate tax base [CCCBT] and a financial transaction tax [FTT].’
