New global chairman for rebranded Ernst & Young

Ernst & Young has appointed Mark Weinberger as its global chairman and CEO. The professional services organisation also announced the adoption of ‘EY’ as its global brand name, unveiled a new logo and adopted ‘Building a better working world’ as its slogan.

Baker & McKenzie has elected 71 new partners across the firm worldwide, including tax specialist James Wilson in its London office.  

Alvarez & Marsal Taxand UK, the independent tax advisory firm, has appointed a new managing director, Philip Martin, to its London office. Martin is former co-head of global tax at Japanese bank Nomura.

Menzies has appointed Stephen Hemmings (formerly of KPMG) as tax director in its London office.

Mid-tier accountancy firm Carter Backer Winter (CBW) has merged with accountants and tax specialists Blackstone Franks. The merger, the second by CBW in the past 18 months, will boost its tax team to ten partners, consultants and staff. The team now includes partners Robert Maas and Thomas Adcock.

MHA MacIntyre Hudson has recruited tax partner Nigel Eastaway (formerly of BDO).
