The EU External Affairs Sub-Committee launches a new inquiry into future customs arrangements after Brexit.

The EU External Affairs Sub-Committee launches a new inquiry into future customs arrangements after Brexit. The House of Lords EU Committee and its six sub-committees are conducting a coordinated series of short inquiries looking at the key issues that will arise in the forthcoming negotiations on Brexit.

This inquiry will consider issues including:

  • possible technological solutions to be implemented at the UK-EU border after Brexit;
  • financial and staff resources required by both the Government and businesses to implement new arrangements;
  • the new customs declaration service (CDS) system and its compatibility with new customs arrangements; and
  • The estimated timeframe to develop and implement new customs arrangements.

The Committee will hold oral evidence sessions for the inquiry from 19 April 2018 with witnesses from the Freight Transport Association.
