The EC has adopted revised state aid criteria for assessing member states’ support schemes in favour of films and other audio-visual works. The new rules extend the scope of the 2001 Cinema Communication beyond film production to include all phases of an audiovisual work and include, for the first time, specific rules on film tax incentives. Member states should bring their existing support schemes in line with the new rules within two years.
