HMRC has decided not to consult formally at this stage on next steps for its tax agent strategy, but will continue to involve representative bodies in the development and testing of new digital services, including agent registration and authorisation. The recently published Briefing Note also notes that the first ‘user testing’ session – covering registering to act as an agent under the new system – took place on 20 August. HMRC says that the session was successful and that it received some useful feedback on these very early screens, and that HMRC will ‘continue the build-and-test approach to ensure we design a new system which works well for both agents and HMRC’.
