How did you end up in tax?
Pure luck. I was on the books of Norwich City as an U-18 and ended up with what was a career ending injury. I did my rehabilitation at a local gym with one eye on eventually making a comeback and ended up training with a tax partner from Coopers & Lybrand. He suggested that I apply for a role in his team to earn some money whilst I tried to get my fitness levels back. Alas my legs were ruined so here I am!
What are you working on at the moment?
A growing proportion of my team’s time is spent on excise duty related matters at present. HMRC has quite rightly targeted avoidance and evasion of this tax within supply...
