One minute with Don Korb, head of tax controversy practice at Sullivan & Cromwell
How did you end up in tax?
In my second year at law school I scored the highest grade in the advanced corporate tax class so I asked if the tax professor would recommend me to the IRS Chief Counsel’s Office for a position in the IRS National Office which ended up as my first job at IRS in the mid-1970’s.
What's the highlight of your career?
That's easy – serving almost five years as the chief counsel for the Internal Revenue Service from 2004 to 2008 which gave me the opportunity to lead what is probably the largest tax law firm in the world comprised of 1 500 lawyers located in Washington DC and across the US.
