One minute with Jonathan Levy, partner, Levy & Levy
How did you first get into tax?
Well I had enjoyed tax at university and after finishing my solicitor’s training all I knew for certain was that I didn’t want to do conveyancing! I saw an advert for the old Inland Revenue which looked surprisingly glamorous with an oil rig picture on it so I joined up. I never did get to see an oil rig but the work was fascinating with a lot of advocacy before the old special and general commissioners which I really enjoyed.
Aside from your immediate colleagues whom in tax do you most admire?
That’s easy: Mr Justice Henderson. He is the absolute model of what a High Court Judge should be on tax matters: truly impartial a brilliant lawyer and very fair.
