What first attracted you to the tax profession?
I went to university to study maths but I proved to be a mediocre mathematician so I changed to law. I suspect the attraction of tax was the combination of law and numbers.
Who in tax do you most admire?
It has to be Steve Edge (partner Slaughter and May). His judgement is outstanding and he has an amazing ability to deliver advice to clients that is pitched at exactly the right level whether it is somebody wanting a very detailed analysis or someone wanting a quick overview
What’s the biggest problem facing tax directors today?
Analysts just look at the headline tax rate and do not always appreciate that that rate is dependent on many different international tax regimes....
