One minute with... Sarah Halsted

How did you end up in VAT?

I joined the local VAT office at the tender age of 16. I worked in various roles from the most junior to a customs officer then as a VAT inspector and a manager in Debt Management and Enquiries. I left C&E in 1999 and worked as a VAT consultant in practice for ten years. My role at Grant Thornton got me involved in knowledge management part-time and I enjoyed the work so much that I eventually moved into a full time role as a VAT technical specialist.

What work is keeping you busy?

As well as my core work of identifying and coordinating BDO’s response to new VAT developments the merger has brought a lot of extra work – I will have a busy autumn planning and running internal training events.
