How did you end up in tax?
A degree in economics and politics at Manchester University followed by the hard hitting and persuasive Arthur Andersen recruitment processes. After three years having seen the tax team being wined and dined in preference to the audit team I decided tax was for me.
Who in tax do you most admire?
Richard Terras who led the Arthur Andersen Manchester Office tax practice. He combined tax technical skills commercial awareness and sound common sense with a love of cricket. Also I will always have a soft spot for the late great Philip Hardman who never allowed a good aside or joke to be lost because of political correctness!
How do you see BDO’s tax services changing over the next 5–10 years?
