Overtaxing the goose

There has been much discussion of late of the need for a plan B for the economy in order to maintain economic growth.

Initial hopes of an export led recovery from the recession appear to have been dashed by the reduced size of the UK manufacturing base.

The best that is being achieved at the moment is a move away from foreign holidays back to vacations in the UK – which highlights the service sector dependency of the UK economy.

With continuing subdued consumer spending and reductions in government spending now taking effect the focus has moved to an hope of an investment led recovery.
