Patent box and SMEs

I feel I have come very late to the patent box party. I had assumed that patent box was similar to the complex R&D tax credit scheme. However having spent a lot of time looking at the implications for clients over the last two or three months I now think that patent box is probably one of the most significant changes to the tax system for SME companies for many years.
