The government has responded by saying that ‘quarterly updates will largely be a matter of checking data generated from record keeping software or apps and clicking “send”’.
Online petitions which receive more than 100,000 signatures are to be subject to a Parliamentary debate. A date for this has not yet been set.
Writing in Tax Journal, HMRC’s Lin Homer said: ‘Contrary to some reports, the new system won’t require businesses to fill out four tax returns a year’, adding: ‘Continuing this digital transformation will be at the heart of our activity in 2016.’
