‘Business leaders have come out in support of a proposed new weapon against aggressive tax avoidance, smoothing the way for George Osborne to advance the proposal in next month’s Budget.

‘The CBI, the employers’ lobbying group, endorsed the blueprint for a "general anti-abuse rule" drawn up by a Treasury-appointed committee last year, provided that it did not expose business to too much uncertainty.

‘The employers’ group said: "If this proposal can successfully be targeted at preventing abusive arrangements without creating uncertainty in relation to the tax treatment of normal commercial arrangements, the CBI believes it should be supported."’
