‘HMRC has said that more than 1,300 employers will join its real time information pilot (RTI) for PAYE between now and September 2012.
‘The confirmation follows the National Audit Office's recent call for the tax authority to set out how its business will be changed by the implementation of RTI and universal credit. In its report on HMRC's performance in 2011-12, the auditor describes HMRC's timetable for full implementation of RTI as "challenging".
‘HMRC launched its RTI pilot in April. Under the initiative employers and pension providers will notify HMRC about PAYE payments at the time they are made, rather than just at the end of the year. The project will eventually support the operation of universal credit.’
