On 8 May 2013 HMRC issued detailed guidance to supplement the provisions of the new statutory residence test (SRT). The draft clauses in respect of the SRT are contained in the Finance Bill which will receive Royal Assent next month although the test came into force from 6 April this year. The guidance has been issued in draft form until the Finance Bill receives Royal Assent.
In addition HMRC is currently piloting an online ‘statutory residence indicator’ tool which is available on its website. The indicator requires a taxpayer to answer a series of questions relating to residence during the relevant period as accurately as possible and it will...
