Real estate investment trusts: informal consultation

printer Mail

The government intends to launch more than 30 tax consultations this year

HM Treasury has launched an informal consultation on the case for real estate investment trusts (REITs) being included in the definition of ‘institutional investor’ and the potential ‘tax risk’ of such a measure. The consultation commenced on 20 March and will close on 14 June.

Informal consultations  are ‘engagement exercises that do not necessarily follow the standard code of practice for consultations’.

The Treasury has updated its tax consultation tracker. Last week’s Budget indicated that the government intends to launch more than 30 tax consultations this year.
