In brief the six objectives against which HMRC measures itself are:

1. improve the extent to which individuals and businesses pay the tax due and receive entitlements

2. improve customers' experience of HMRC and help improve the UK business environment

3. improve professionalism especially in security of information in dealing with stakeholders and for external impact

4. deliver an affordable and sustainable cost base

5. create a working environment which motivates and develops its people

6. use IT to help transform performance.
