Review of the Business Tax Roadmap

Ashley Greenbank (Macfarlanes) reviews the new Business Tax Roadmap which sets the tax agenda for the current parliament.

In the early days of the Coalition government in 2010 the government published the Corporate Tax Roadmap. This set out the main planks of its legislative agenda for the parliament and the key principles on which any further reforms would be based.  

For those who need a reminder those principles were:

  • lowering rates while maintaining the tax base;
  • maintaining stability;
  • maintaining a level playing field for taxpayers;
  • alignment with modern business practice; and
  • avoiding complexity.

There is certainly not much to suggest that the government will meet one of its guiding principles that of increased simplicity
